Take the I-15 to Escondido and exit on El Norte Parkway. Head east for about 3 1/4 miles to La Honda Drive (you will see a sign for Lake Dixon here). Turn left and head up the hill to the entrance station - there is (occasionally) a $1 fee to enter. Follow the road for another 1/4 mile to a parking lot on the left, Trout Cove. The approach trail is directly across the main road from the parking lot. Keep right at the first fork in the trail.
